When I first came to City Center Ballet as a dancer, I was impressed
by the
energy
and technical ability of the young dancers in the company.
So I was delighted and
honored when director Linda Copp commissioned
me to choreograph Coppélia for
CCB's spring and fall seasons, 2006.
Coppélia has always been one of my favorite
ballets. The elements of
fantasy, love and comedy make it a favorite among audiences
of all ages.
In setting this ballet, I studied the work of many talented choreographers
to see how each of them approached this family classic. I enjoyed being a
part of this
tradition, and adding my own personal touches to the existing choreography.-- DF
